Design 2 – Le Barbe Magnifique

So this was my rough first design on illustrator that was heavily influenced by my first design in photoshop when i was just playing with some ideas. I took what i made on photoshop and placed it in illustrator i traced the hand, scissors and a new banner template. When tracing I changed certain parts to make it not a complete copy of the original image. I felt i would add a bold line instead of a dotted line around the edge as it gave the image more of a stamp look and drew the eye more to centre of the image. I also thought if the logo was shown on small documents e.g paper, business cards etc. it would show up a lot better. The reason i changed the banner was because of the awkward shape that the text had to be shown on the last design so i decided to go with a much simpler banner. Overall I’m happy with the progress but theres still more elements i want to include and to play with different colour ways/fonts.

Font Experimentation

When finding fonts i went to the website Da.Font. I wanted a range of fancy stylish and old rough themed styles of font. The reason for these styles of fonts is the fact they are seen on many different barber logos and work well when going through research. Once i found a load of fonts i placed them within a document so i could compare and see which ones worked stronger than others. When comparing them i felt that the more basic and bold the better; i felt it represented the brand i was trying to get across as well as reflecting masculinity. I had a few favourites from the list but will continue to search for more fonts if they don’t fit in with my final logo.

First Design: Le Barbe Magnifique

In this first design i mocked up on photoshop by using clipart images and basic shapes to form an outline for what i can take into illustrator when drawing out my design free hand. I want my Final design to follow this style or something similar. I also played with colour ways and experimented with how i wanted to reflect my design through the the colours i selected. I will trace certain parts of this design as it would be to complex to draw free hand in illustrator without a graphics tablet but still keeping it original to me.

Layout design

In this weeks workshop i focused on layout design. First i took a mood board of other magazine designs and then applied my research to my own layout. This was good practice for the leaflet i want to produce for my Barber brand, When looking at other designs i learned that they kept a continuous theme and layout within there designs. I focused on these areas in particular:type hierachy & supporting graphics, columns, grids & modules, space, form & movement dividing sections.

Colour Workshop

In week 2 workshop i made a mood board and looked into the colours from the images i selected. By doing this i took colour swatches from the images and developed a presentation by doing so. This method is useful when coming to make my own designs as it helps pick out what couloirs work well and not so well together.
